Role Summary
• A for-credit legal externship, spring or summer 2027, in NPR's Office of the General Counsel, the in-house legal team of the national public radio network. Law students support its lawyers across media law, intellectual property, First Amendment issues, technology, commercial contracts and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
• Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda, contracts, and other documents.
• Participate in client, legislative, and regulatory meetings.
• Observe legal proceedings and attend legal training sessions.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Degree: Current student in an accredited law degree program (1L, 2L, 3L, or LLM).
• Skills: Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Experience: Preferred interest in media, technology, or non-profit fields.
Work & Eligibility
• Spring term runs Jan 11 – May 7, 2027; Summer term runs May 10 – Aug 13, 2027 (12 weeks, 40 hours/week).
• Spring requires course credit; Summer permits course credit or school-sponsored stipends.
