Role Summary
• A two-year research associate job, starting summer 2027, in the Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, one of the twelve regional banks of the US central bank. Research associates assist the department's PhD economists with policy briefings, empirical research and economic modelling — a common path to an economics PhD.
Responsibilities
• Assist economists with econometric modeling, data collection, and empirical research projects.
• Analyze financial conditions and construct economic charts and data visualizations.
• Contribute writing to Bank publications and present to civic and educational groups.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Degree: Bachelor's or master's in economics, statistics, mathematics, or computer science.
• Coursework or experience in economics required; in econometrics, mathematics, statistics and computer science highly desirable.
• Skills: Stata, R, Python or Matlab highly desirable.
• A strong academic record and empirical research experience highly desirable.
Work & Eligibility
• Length: Two-year term starting summer 2027.
• Work Authorization: U.S. work authorization required without sponsorship (F-1 STEM OPT accepted).
• Schedule: On-site with up to 5 days per month remote flexibility.
