Role Summary
• An unpaid policy research internship with the International Rescue Committee, the global humanitarian aid organisation, in its Preferred Communities program, which supports refugees with serious medical needs. The intern researches how such services could be billed to Medicaid and runs cost-benefit analysis of the program's effect on health systems — the evidence for funding the work.
Responsibilities
• Map state-by-state Medicaid billing structures, compliance rules, and reimbursement pathways across program sites.
• Evaluate organizational readiness and identify sustainable funding strategies beyond Medicaid.
• Conduct cost-benefit analysis examining the impact of case management on emergency room usage.
• Author two standalone literature reviews and final policy reports.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Desired: Graduate- or doctoral-level coursework in social work, public health, psychology, psychiatry or a related field.
• Skills: Strong policy research, systems mapping, and analytical writing skills.
Work & Eligibility
• Remote position open to U.S.-based graduate students.
• Availability during standard business hours preferred.
• Must complete IRC background check and required safety and security trainings.
