Role Summary
• A two-year legal fellowship in the ACLU's Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project at its national office in New York. A litigation fellow works as a junior lawyer on the ACLU's cases and policy advocacy — here protecting free speech, privacy and civil liberties as technology changes — drafting briefs, researching, and helping shape the project's legal strategy.
Responsibilities
• Conduct legal and factual research, interview clients, draft briefs, pleadings, and amicus curiae briefs across state and federal courts.
• Support affiliate litigation, assist with legislative and policy work, and participate in public education coalitions.
• Help manage the summer legal internship program and supervise student interns.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Degree: J.D. required or expected by Spring 2027.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of First and/or Fourth Amendment issues preferred, but not required.
Work & Eligibility
• Two-year term beginning in Fall 2027.
