Role Summary
• A full-time research associate in the Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, one of the twelve regional banks of the US central bank, focused on payments. The associate supports PhD economists with data analysis and empirical research on how people and businesses pay, consumer finance and the wider economy.
Responsibilities
• Analyze transaction-level datasets and national survey microdata to generate charts and empirical findings.
• Assist PhD economists with policy briefings, econometric research, and Bank academic publications.
• Deliver speeches to civic and educational groups.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Degree: Bachelor's or master's in economics, statistics, mathematics, or computer science.
• Coursework or experience in economics required; in econometrics, mathematics, statistics and computer science highly desirable.
• Skills: Stata, R, Python or Matlab highly desirable.
Work & Eligibility
• Two-year term starting fall/winter 2026.
• Work authorization required for 2 years without sponsorship (STEM OPT eligible).
