Role Summary
• A cartographer at the CIA, making the maps that accompany intelligence analysis for senior policymakers, including the President. The work combines geographic data, mapping software and design to show where things are happening and why it matters.
Responsibilities
• Collect, analyze, and integrate geographic and substantive data into effectively designed cartographic products.
• Apply cartographic design principles, including symbology theory, map projections, display hierarchies, and topographic mapping.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Knowledge: Cartographic design principles and GIS fundamentals (data layers, geographic coordinate systems, formatting).
• Desired: Proficiency in, or rapidly gaining expertise with, cartographic, graphic and web software such as ESRI ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Clearance: U.S. citizenship required; must pass a CIA background investigation.
Work & Eligibility
• Must be available for periodic shift work, including nights and weekends.
