Employer Overview
GIFFORDS is a national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. The organization works to reduce gun violence by advocating for gun safety legislation, educating the public, and supporting policy leaders and community advocates committed to saving lives.
Role Overview
The Courage Fellowship provides young advocates with the opportunity to refine their advocacy skills and engage directly in gun violence prevention. Fellows participate in a structured series of in-person and virtual trainings, engage with policy experts, and meet with state legislators. Participants also design and implement a community engagement project such as a town hall, voter registration drive, or press conference. Upon completion, fellows join the ambassador program to continue attending events and mentoring future cohorts.
Required Knowledge & Experience
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 24, have strong ties to the state, and plan to remain there for the foreseeable future. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in politics, activism, community organizing, or volunteerism, alongside a commitment to gun violence prevention. Prior formal experience in gun violence prevention advocacy is not required.
Work Requirements & Benefits
Participants must attend all scheduled in-person and virtual training sessions and check-ins. All program-related costs, including meals, travel, and lodging, are fully covered by the organization.
Application Process
Apply online by submitting a one-page resume and a short essay of 750 words or fewer addressing gun violence in America, proposed state-level prevention strategies, and personal goals for the fellowship.
