Role Summary
• A part-time legal traineeship, June to September 2026, with the Democracy and Security Network of the German Marshall Fund — a transatlantic think tank promoting cooperation between the US and Europe. Open to law students and graduates, it supports research and analysis on where law meets civil-military relations and democratic resilience, including the military's legal authorities.
Responsibilities
• Conduct legal research on military deployment, military justice, and civil-military oversight across state, federal, and international contexts.
• Provide research, writing, and editing support for publications on the military, democracy, and society.
• Support engagements with legislative staff and external partners.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Degree: Current law student or law degree holder.
• Background: Knowledge of or interest in transatlantic democratic backsliding and civil-military relations; previous experience in a think tank, foundation, NGO, government body, media outlet or similar organisation preferred but not required.
Work & Eligibility
• Dates & Hours: June to September 2026 preferred; 20–30 hours a week preferred, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
