Role Summary
• A research assistant job at the Federal Judicial Center, the federal courts' own research and education agency. For graduate students in a social or behavioural science, the role supports the Center's studies of how the federal courts work — helping design research, gather and analyse data, and write up findings that inform judges and court policy.
Responsibilities
• Collect, clean, and analyze empirical data using statistical packages.
• Assist with database management, research design, and report writing.
• Collaborate with research teams on policy and legal studies.
Required Knowledge & Experience
• Degree: Enrolled full-time in a graduate program in political science, sociology, psychology, or a related discipline.
• Skills: Knowledge of statistical programs (SAS, SPSS, STATA, or R) and database management tools (Excel, Access, or FileMaker).
• Experience: Prior research experience in academic, volunteer, or professional settings.
Work & Eligibility
• Commitment: 30–39 hours per week for at least 8 weeks in summer; 12–15 hours per week during fall and spring terms.
