Decoding the Congressional Job Bulletin

Official bulletins compress a lot of meaning into a few lines. “LC” means Legislative Correspondent, “LA” Legislative Assistant, and “LD” Legislative Director — a rough ladder from constituent mail to running an office’s policy shop.

Read the requirements as signals, not gates. “Hill experience preferred” often means a hiring manager will still read a strong applicant with campaign, agency, or district experience. Requirements phrased as “must” are firm; everything else is negotiable evidence you assemble in your cover letter.

Watch the phrase “state ties preferred.” Many personal offices prioritize applicants connected to the district. If you have them, name them plainly in your first sentence.
